Designing an Eclectic Styled Event

Published by andbutterfliestoo@gmail.com on

I love anything eclectic. What is it you ask! Eclectic style encompasses a variety of periods and styles and is brought together through the use of color, texture, shape and finish. It reshuffles the rule book, mixing and matching old and new, East and West, luxe and humble, showy and quiet. It invites you to fill a space with objects you love and unique finds that strike your fancy. Simply put, it’s you, curated.

If you take a quick look around at weddings from today, it’s no surprise that an eclectic and vintage inspired decor theme is all the rage. The look is easy to achieve if you’ve got some spare time on your hands or the desire to investigate a few local consignment shops, salvage yards, thrift stores and/or even vintage rental companies. It can also be as simple as going through some family heirlooms or attic space and finding some old treasures, all of which can SAVE you money!! Really anything goes, and can be found if you look hard enough. These are some of my favorites for you to watch out for:

Mismatched vintage chairs, some of my favorite founds. They have so much character by themselves or grouped with a bunch of other misfits. I’m obsessed. Random finds like frames, glassware, canisters, suitcases, birdcages, clocks, you name it! These make for an amazing table design. Old window panes and doors are absolutely perfect for escort cards, picture frames, menus….

The best way to master the medley: Dive in. Choose a few must-haves to anchor the space, don’t be afraid to experiment. Play light against dark, old against new, honed against glossy, rustic against elegant — but look for opportunities to create parallels. And be firm about editing; you can’t stuff every piece you love into a single design. When you find the right balance, you’ll feel it instinctively. Whatever you do, do it with conviction and know that it’ll be just plain AWESOME!

Until the next time Butterflies, keep creating!
